Why I Believe Medina Spirit Could Have Gotten the Banned Steroid From An Ointment
The above is an ointment prescribed by a Rood and Riddle veterinarian for a fungal infection on my retired racehorse named “Splendid High’s” lower legs. It contains a steroid also. Medina Spirit tested positive for a steroid and it stripped him of his Derby win.
Fungal infections are no minor thing as they can cause cellulitis and the extreme pain and terrible swelling from it. Any racehorse trainer would want to prevent it in any way he or she could.
